Where It All Began

Adventure Out Loud started with a simple but life-changing experience. Our founder, Nate, moved to Tanzania to volunteer at the School of St Jude. Like many who visit Africa, he was completely taken in by the beauty of the continent. The landscapes, the wildlife, the culture, the people, it all left a lasting impression.

But alongside that beauty, he saw something else that stayed with him even longer. He met children full of potential who simply didn’t have access to education. Bright, capable young people whose futures were limited not by ability, but by opportunity.

That contrast sparked an idea. What if travel could be more than just an experience? What if it could actually create change? What if the same people coming to enjoy Africa could also help shape its future?

From that idea, Adventure Out Loud was born. A way to bring people into Africa’s incredible landscapes and cultures while also investing in the communities that make those experiences possible.

Over ten years later, that idea has grown into something truly meaningful. Today AOL is creating immersive travel experiences for our customers and donating 50% of our profits to support education and conservation initiatives in developing communities

The Impact So Far

Through Adventure Out Loud, more than 100 children have been supported through school in partnership with local charities.

Education projects have been funded across Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. Women and youth have been supported through social-economic empowerment and communities strengthened.

And what makes it even more special is that the impact doesn’t stop when the sponsorship ends. Many of the students supported years ago are now graduating and out in the world creating change of their own.

The Lives You Help Shape

Over the years, hundreds of lives have been changed through Adventure Out Loud.

Some of those stories are quiet but powerful. Girls who otherwise may have been married off at a young age are now in school, building their futures on their own terms. Others who were at risk of early pregnancies have been given the chance to stay in classrooms, grow in confidence, and dream bigger.

For many young boys, the story could have gone in a very different direction. Growing up in environments where drugs, crime, and a lack of opportunity are constant realities, it’s easy to lose your way. But with access to education and support, many have found purpose, direction, and a path forward.

These are the kinds of changes that don’t always make headlines, but they change everything. Not just for one person, but for families, for communities, and for the next generation.

Jacob’s Story – From Surviving to Serving

Jacob grew up as an orphan in Kibera, Nairobi, the largest urban slum in Africa. Like many young people in the slum, the odds were stacked against him. As a little boy with no one to support or guide him, the weight of survival often came before his own future.

The pressure to provide for his siblings meant education was slipping further out of reach, and hope was beginning to fade. It was at this critical point that Adventure Out Loud stepped in to sponsor his education. Their support gave him a second chance. With that stability, he was able to return to his studies with focus and determination, eventually graduating as one of the top students in his class.

That achievement opened the door to meaningful employment, allowing him to rebuild his life with dignity and true to the impact he experienced, he first extended this opportunity to his siblings, ensuring they too could access education.

Faith’s Story – Breaking Barriers

Faith’s journey is one of resilience, courage, and breaking boundaries.

Faith was first sponsored in 2017 by one of our Kilimanjaro trekkers who she also met as part of their trek. This sponsorship opening doors for Faith that once felt far out of reach. Through that support, she pursued her education with focus and ambition, eventually studying overseas and graduating with a degree in Computer Science at one of Africa’s most prestigious universities on a full scholarship.

But her journey didn’t stop there. Along the way, Faith has spoken on platforms like TEDx, travelled to multiple countries as a student, and continued to push beyond every expectation placed in front of her.

Her story is not just about success. It’s about redefining what’s possible for an entire generation of girls growing up in a place like the Kibera slums.

Denis’ Story – A Story of Never Losing Hope

Denis’ story is a powerful reminder of what the right support at the right time can do.

Also raised in a challenging environment, Denis faced the kind of realities that limit potential for many young people. But with access to education and consistent support, he was able to stay focused and build a different future for himself. In Denis’ case, this was a second chance to sit his year 12 exams and achieve the mark that would allow him to become a Telecommunications Engineer.

Today, Denis is a top IT professional working at one of Kenya’s leading banks. His journey has not only transformed his own life, but also that of his family. He has been able to move out of the slum and is now supporting his mother, helping her live a more comfortable and secure life.

His story is one of determination, growth, and the quiet but powerful impact of opportunity.

At the end of each year, 50% of our year-end profit is reinvested directly into education and community projects via a donation to our charity partner Mwembe Foundation Australia. Mwembe distribute this donation to our local charity partners to fund school tuition, build learning spaces, equip classrooms, and create opportunities that last far beyond your visit.
